Sometimes people prefer following a set time schedule. Below is a sample schedule that you can follow during the retreat if you choose: 5:00 AM Walking 5:30 AM -6:45 AM Breakfast Work period 9:00 AM- 11 AM | 2:00 PM- 5:00 PM Optional Yoga Tea Break 7:00 PM- 9:00 PM Guided |
1. Being harmless towards people, animals, and nature.
2. Only take things that are freely given.
(For 1 & 2)
The mental layer carries guilt. The development of virtue help to clear this layer of all the guilt. Otherwise, all kinds of guilt will come up in meditation instead of gladness, joy, and inner happiness.
According to Transcendental Dependent Origination ( sequence of conditions leading to Awakening), Freedom From Remorse arises automatically in one who is Virtuous. Gladness arises automatically in one who is Free From Remorse. Next in the sequence are Rapture ( piti), Tranquility (passaddhi), Inner Happiness ( sukha), Samadhi ( jhana), Wisdom, etc.
3. Abstain from all sexual activity .
4.Noble Silence-This gives the mind a chance to settle. Otherwise, we will be thinking about what to say next. During meditation thoughts about what he said or she said would flow up to the surface, along with the accompanying emotion. Interactions and chatter will become fuel for inner chatter.
5. Refrain from intoxicating drinks and drugs that can decrease mental awareness.
*6. Refrain from taking untimely meals - When we are just sitting and meditating all day, we are not burning that much calories so there is no need to consume so much calories. All the food will just be sitting there undigested, creating sloth, torpor, and lethargy. It is best to just eat a light breakfast in the morning and have lunch . In the evening, it is enough to just have some drink ( ie.. herbal infusion, hot cocoa, tea, etc) .
7. No TV, entertainments, attending performances. The contents in movies or shows can be emotionally stimulating and can reverberate in the mind during meditation.
8. No use of garlands, perfumes and make-up/ personal adornment .
Note: The idea is to allow the mind to settle, creating an internal conducive condition for stillness.
